For over 30 years, Gem Screens has proudly served homeowners and businesses throughout North Georgia and beyond. Our family-owned company — operated by Joyce and Joe Malik — has been serving the screening industry in North Georgia since 1984. Founded by Jim Malik, the business began with just a pickup truck, a ladder, and a dream to help families enjoy their outdoor spaces year-round. Today, that same mission lives on through Jim’s family — his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren — who are honored to carry forward the legacy he built with integrity, hard work, and heart.
Jim was more than a successful businessman — he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, coach, mentor, and a man of unwavering faith. For eight years, he coached high school baseball, inspiring young men both on and off the field. He mentored countless individuals in business and in life, and many who worked alongside him at Gem Screens were encouraged by him to launch businesses of their own. Jim never met a stranger — every customer became a friend. He was also a dedicated member of Victory Christian Center of Atlanta for over 30 years, and he openly shared his faith, often saying that Jesus Christ was his Savior.
Jim’s passions went far beyond the business — he was a loyal super fan of the Atlanta Braves and loved spending time outdoors, especially catching big, fun fish and making memories with his family. He was deeply loved by his wife, children, and nine grandchildren, and his presence is missed every day.
Though we are no longer physically located in Cherokee County, our roots there run deep. For over 30 years, Gem Screens was based in the historic mill in downtown Canton. We continue to serve communities throughout Cherokee, North Fulton, Forsyth, Dawson, Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin, and other metro and mountain counties in Georgia — as well as clients throughout the Southeast, including South Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida.
For the past 30 years, we’ve proudly specialized in EZE Breeze Porch Enclosure Systems, transforming porches and patios into beautiful, functional living spaces. Whether you’re dealing with weather, pollen, insects, debris, or privacy concerns, our team is here to help you create an outdoor area you can enjoy nearly every day of the year.
We offer free estimates and proudly meet customers on-site at their porch, patio, or portico to bring their vision to life.
